About the programme

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancer types diagnosed in developed countries. In the Czech Republic, approximately 7,100 cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed each year, and around 3,000 patients die from it annually. Every asymptomatic man or woman over the age of 50 falls into the target population for colorectal cancer screening and is therefore entitled to preventive examinations covered by public health insurance. These preventive examinations can be performed in two ways. The first option is a faecal occult blood test (FOBT), which will be prescribed by your general practitioner or registered gynecologist. The second option is to undergo a screening colonoscopy, for which your general practitioner or registered gynecologist will issue a request form. A screening colonoscopy is performed by a qualified gastroenterologist, and you can choose the colonoscopy screening centre yourself. A list of centers is available to help you. Colorectal cancer can remain asymptomatic for several years, so if you are over 50, it is important not to hesitate and get tested in time. Early detection is the key to successful treatment!
